Desalle Aiming for British GP Glory

It’s Matterley Basin time! And as the 13th Motocross World Championship travels to the legendary dirt track for the British Grand Prix this weekend it’s all or nothing for Clement Desalle.

The Belgian Rockstar Energy Suzuki World rider needs a victory to put one over the so-far untouchable Antonio Cairoli, if he is to have any chance of catching the Italian in the MX1 championship, which has only three more rounds to go.

Matterley Basin holds fond, if somewhat distant, memories for Desalle, and last year due to an injury the Belgian had to watch on from the sidelines as Cairoli took an impressive win.

This time around Desalle is determined to stop the Italian, and in the process chip away at his 30-point standings advantage.

"I raced there in 2006 and I really like the circuit," said Desalle, who claimed his 8th podium place at the Czech Republic GP in Loket. “Matterley Basin is a modern track but then there are also some old fashioned things about it.

The Belgian added: “I hope it will be looked after because the mud will see a lot of action but I'm looking forward to going.”

Among the other Alpinestars athletes set to shine at Winchester are Gautier Paulin, who sits fourth in the championship, Kevin Strijbos and Xavier Boog, sixth and seventh respectively, and Scotsman Shaun Simpson in tenth.

In the MX2 class all eyes will be firmly fixed on the battle between homeboy Tommy Searle and Jeffrey Herlings. Meanwhile Jeremy Van Horebeek will be looking to consolidate his third place in the MX2 standings, with Jordi Tixier coming back from injury suffered at the beginning of the month.
