Shane Byrne will be ‘giving it everything’ at this weekend’s British Superbike Championship at Silverstone, as he attempts to hit the top spot in the Title Fighters Showdown.
‘Shakey’ trails leader Josh Brookes by two points as the BSB Championship heads into the penultimate round at the legendary circuit, and Byrne is calling on last weekend’s incredible performance at Assen as an inspirational fillip.
Byrne had missed two races prior to the Dutch event due to a shoulder injury, but at Assen he bounced back in style, winning race 1 and narrowly missing out to Brookes on the last corner in race 2.
“If we can do at Silverstone what we did at Assen then I would be happy. As we saw last weekend, anything can still happen,” said the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki rider.
“I’ve been flat out with training and physio as I need to be in the best possible condition for not only this weekend but the final round at Brands Hatch in two weeks time.”
Prior to the injury which forced him to miss Cadwell and Donington Park, Byrne had been on a solid run of form, winning both races at Brands Hatch in July and with a string of podium places under his belt. So much so that Shakey looked a good bet to land his third BSB championship.
“There are three or four of us up there for that title fight now and we just need to keep our heads down and try to maintain that rhythm,” said Byrne, who was crowned champion in 2003 and 2008. “I know I will be giving it everything.”
