Repsol Montesa’s Toni Bou continued his impressive winning form by topping the podium at the Palau St Jordi stadium, Barcelona, on Sunday to claim a second successive victory in the 2013 FIM X-Trial World Championship.

Bou’s win adds yet another accolade to the Spaniard’s list of achievements - which includes 12 world indoor and outdoor trials championships - as he now equals trial legend Jordi Tarres’ record of seven Indoor Trial De Barcelona victories.

“I’m very happy, it was a great day in front of my fans,” said Bou. “I can hardly believe that this was my seventh victory in this great arena, as I never thought I would be able to achieve such a record.”

With a large crown in attendance, Bou dominated the qualifying session, the semi-final and the finale, where he was the only one to finish the third zone without points. Over the event’s ten zones, Bou proved himself to be a cut above the competition, receiving only 7 points in total, with an ominous 14-mark gap ahead of Adam Raga, who placed second on the night.

The only rider to get close to Bou in the fourth and closing section was team-mate Takahisa Fujinami, who dropped just three marks, to claim his first podium of the season, enough to propel the Japanese star to fifth overall in the championship standings.

Fujinami said: “I really wanted to get a good result at the Barcelona Indoor and I’m very happy to have achieved this third place, because the beginning of the year was very difficult for me, with the sixth position in Sheffield.”

Reigning champion Bou now leads the standings with a total of 40 points, 19 more than Albert Cabestany and Jeroni Fajardo, who are tied in second place with 21 points. The next round of the X-Trial World Championships takes place in Malaga in early March.
