Alex began his racing career in the CEV Buckler 125cc championship and made his world championship debut as a wildcard at the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix in Moto3, scoring points in difficult weather conditions as he finished the race in twelfth place.
In 2013, Alex achieved his first podium at the Indianapolis Grand Prix with a second-place finish and then recorded three consecutive third-place finishes at Silverstone, Misano and Motorland Aragon, before taking his first career victory at the Japanese Grand Prix. He finished the season in fourth position in the final championship standings.
For 2014, Alex remained in the Moto3 World Championship and took successive wins in Catalunya and the Netherlands. Alex then enjoyed a run of five top-two finishes, including another victory at Motegi and a third-place finish at the final round in Valencia. Alex clinched the title by two points. In the process, he and brother Marc became the first brothers to win world motorcycle racing titles.
For the 2015 season, Alex moved up to the Moto2 World Championship, scoring two promising fourth places at Brno and Silverstone. Alex raised his game in the 2017 season, delivering three race wins and finishing fourth in the rider standings before finishing fourth again a year later.
This season has seen Alex take five race victories on his way to successfully wrapping up the 2019 Moto2 World Championship title at Sepang; it is the second time the Marquez brothers have held World Championships at the same time.
