Dovi, the 2004 125cc word champion, has been in MotoGP since his sensational rookie season in 2008, where he was top independent team rider and fifth overall in the championship.

His solid and consistent performance earnt him a move to the factory Repsol Honda team the following season, and he claimed his first victory in the class at Donington Park, eventually finishing the season in sixth.

2010 saw him finish on the podium seven times, a feat he repeated in 2011.

The following season saw Dovi make the move to the Tech 3 Yamaha squad, scoring another six podiums on his way to a fourth place finish in the championship.

In 2013 he signed for the factory Ducati team, taking a pole and two podiums in 2014, five podiums and pole in 2015 and his first race win on the Desmosedici in 2016 at the Malaysian Grand Prix.

The 2017 season saw Dovi put together a strong title challenge, winning six races and taking eight podium finishes as he took the championship to the wire, eventually finishing runner-up in the championship after crashing in the final race of the season. He took another four race wins and nine podiums on his way to another runner-up spot in the championship in 2018.
