The youngest ever Japanese GP125 championship winner, Takaaki Nakagami won every single race on his way to the title in 2006.

After riding in a variety of domestic and international classes he made the switch to Moto2 in 2011, finishing his rookie season in 15th position in the standings.

He took his first podium in the class at Lugsail in 2013 and quickly followed this up with his first pole position three rounds later at Le Mans. He would enjoy another pole position that season, at the British Grand Prix, and enjoyed four back-to-back second-placed finishes.

He switched teams in 2014, riding for the Idemitsu Honda Team Asia outfit and finally took his maiden class win in 2016 with a dominant victory at Assen. He also enjoyed three third-place finishes and eight top-five finishes on his way to sixth in the final rider standings.

In 2017 he added another Moto2 race win to his haul, taking the top step at Silverstone. He also rode his way to another three podiums, taking three third-place finishes over the course of the season.

Takaaki moved up to MotoGP the following season, riding for the LCR Honda team.

He has also won the prestigious Suzuka 8hr race, taking the honors in 2010 on board the MuSashi RT Harc-Pro Honda
