Ai Ogura had a race to remember in Assen, taking the lead on the opening lap before being shuffled back to fifth at one stage, and then surviving a ride height device issue to take the chequered flag 2.004s clear of the field and become the first Japanese rider to stand on the on the top step of a MotoGP podium since 2004.
He was joined on the podium by Raul Fernandez in second and Jorge Martin in third, a result which moves Martin to the top of the rider standings.
Fabio Di Giannantonio finished fourth, Alex Marquez fifth, Enea Bastianini sixth, Marc Marquez seventh, Fabio Quartararo eighth, and Alex Rins ninth; all Alpinestars riders.
